Captivating audiences/taking audiences captive since 2003

Well, I guess it was too much to ask that they spare a game seven so I can watch the Office without interruption. Games like these are why I don’t post as often in the playoffs as I do during the regular season. It’s not that they lost and I’m mad, or discouraged, or whatever; it’s that there’s not a lot to say.

The team executed in much the same way as it did in the games that they won. They pitched well, they (mostly) kept the ball in the park, and La Russa made good calls at the right time. But the hits came at inopportune moments, there was a rare poor throw from Yadier Molina, and the Cardinals couldn’t solve John Maine. That’s really all there was to it, and unless I’m a swing coach–and if I ever start a wiffleball blog I’ll have something there–there’s just nothing to be said about it. You can’t leave that many guys on base early and win the game.

There’s no comfortable game cushion anymore, but I still have to like the Cards’ chances going into game seven. Oli Perez is a 7 IP, 12 K performance waiting to happen, but on short rest, and after struggling in his earlier outing, the odds are just as good that he leaves a bunch of pitches up and the Mets are on to Trax and Darren Oliver by the third inning. If ever there was a time when I wanted Jeff “The Most Boring Pitcher Ever” Suppan on the hill, leaving a path of death, destruction and tidy consistency in his slow, even wake, it’s now.

As for all this talk of not posting often, I plan on doing a lot in the offseason. Let’s just delay it as long as possible.

  1. There needs to be more wiffle ball blogs out there, you should start one. I too am angry about missing The Office, but thank God for DVR’s. I hear this episode we get to meet the Schrutes. Can’t miss. Go Cards
