(There’s an actual entry below this one.) First AdSense, now this: I’ve opened up a store with Spreadshirt, purveyors of fine customized merchandise, and I’m now shilling for t-shirts. This first one, as foreshadowed in Sunday’s post, is for people who aren’t so sure #51 is the right jersey to retire. People who think that, before Willie McGee is so honored, a more severe short-changing needs to be corrected. Yeah, you know who I’m talking about.

Note that the design isn’t just digitally printed on, CafePress style; these are high quality shirts, at least in terms of construction. (I can’t vouch for design.) And as an additional bonus, now you can shoot the GUB coffers two bucks and be the coolest person in Busch Stadium at the same time. This convenient modern life! More designs coming soon (including the original, sincere Ray Lankford model that inspired this one), at least until my Adobe Illustrator trial runs out. Here’s that link one more time.

2. I love the shirt—I think it’s a great antidote to the masses clamoring to retire No. 51.

   Willie was lovable, but in my book that’s not enough to have the ultimate honor bestowed by the greatest franchise in league history. Maybe if we were the Padres, or the Phillies or something. But a couple good seasons and a humble reputation shouldn’t get a number retired, even with the postseason heroics—if it did, Whitey Kurowski would’ve had his number retired decades ago….
